Congratulations to Caroline and Cameron Johnson! They married on Sunday, July 28, 2019, at the Kitsap Golf and Country Club surrounded by family and friends. Their day began with a morning photo shoot on the Bremerton Boardwalk (where Cameron had proposed to Caroline), the Harborside Fountain Park, Lions Park, and photos were taken at a private residence. Michelle and Nicole got engaged on the beach and we’re married on a beautiful summer day, near the water, with their family and friends at Suquamish Clearwater Casino Resort on Sunday, July 21, 2019. Family and friends witnessed their sweet union traveling from Japan, Israel, New Jersey, Oregon, and around the country coming together to wish the ladies well. Clients ask me all of the time…”What kind of photography do you really love to do?” And, my answer is all photography! However, I do love working with clients on commercial photo shoots especially when the client has created a unique brand which showcases their own personal style.

Methia Marie Gordon Nugent, owner, chef, baker, and friend, of Sweet Life Cakery located in Kingston, Washington, creates her signature delicious wedding, birthday, and special occasion cakes, cupcakes, pies, scones, cookies, quiches, and more using fresh, wholesome, rich ingredients that are both sweet and savory, presented with a vintage cottage style that’s all hers.

When Methia asked me to work with her to photograph a new line of cakes and other baked goods for her marketing materials and her website, I first got to know and understand her style before I did the photo-shoot. So, met her for a complimentary consultation and talked about her vision. Then, we scheduled three photo sessions to meet her schedule: Portraiture and Head Shots, Commercial Kitchen, and her Sweet Life Cakery retail shop. The results of our collaboration are sweet! Have you ever dreamed of seeing the ‘End of the World’? Or, checking off those ‘1001 Things to See and Do Before You Die’? Our recent trip to South America and Patagonia provided us some of the world’s most dramatic scenery; unveiling places few ever see. The weather too, in this area, can change so quickly; from calm to ferocious gale force winds preventing ships from traveling around the Cape Horn or arriving safely in Port Stanley, Falkland Islands. Boy, did we luck out! In fact, the captain of our cruise ship said, “This is the calmest it has ever been, on my watch, sailing around the Cape Horn” The following images were taken on our journey. Congratulations! You just got engaged and would like to work with one photographer who can do your engagement photos and your wedding photography. But how do you choose a photographer when there are so many portrait and wedding photographers to pick from?

Do a Google search for photographers in your area. Review the photographers work on their website and Social Media pages. Look at their reviews. Ask yourself, do you like their photography style and the variety of work they advertise? Can you visualize spending time with the photographer, getting along with the photographer, and being comfortable with them for the photo session? Does the photographer advertise they can do both engagement and wedding photography?  

Next, contact the photographer and schedule a time to chat and meet them in person. Ask a lot of questions and build a relationship with the photographer. There are many qualified and talented photographers in the market place; however, by doing a little homework and setting aside some time to get to know the photographer, you will gain great confidence that he/she will do a fantastic job for you.
